How To Clone A Discord Server

I've had many issues with Steam's chat for a while so I am certainly happy that Valve is buffing it up. As many people are mentioning, though, it's starting to look like a Discord clone.

  1. How To Copy A Discord Server Link

Check out the Clone Hero community on Discord - hang out with 84,233 other members and enjoy free voice and text chat.

This seems to be becoming a trend (see: Reddit's new chat function) and I don't want Valve to jump on.With the resources and reputation Valve has, paired with Discord's current problem of trying to figure out how to monetize their creation (Discord Nitro obviously isn't profitable for them), I think either an acquisition or a partnership between Valve and Discord, in which Discord's chat feature is integrated with Steam, would be beneficial for Valve, Discord and us the consumer.I'm sure it obviously isn't that simple. I just don't want to see the death of Discord because companies all make their own little knockoff.

Discord is good because it is central. I have Discord servers for all my different interests and topics. I don't want to have to have a different application for each interest I have just to have a conversation in a chat room about it.TL;DR: Valve should look into partnering with Discord and make that their chat function. Making a Discord clone just ruins things. Originally posted by:You speak wisely. However, note that many of us greatly dislike discord, and would rather not have it, or anything similar, foisted upon us.Maybe off topic, but what's wrong with Discord? I use it daily and am a great fan, so wondering what would cause you to 'greatly dislike' it.Either way, it would be the same situation as this chat beta if it were to happen (in the unlikely event of).

So its features would not be forced onto you. I'd see it as being a feature if you link your Steam account to Discord, something you can do already. That then makes it an option for users with accounts with both, unless Valve wanted to acquire Discord and go full integration. I already answered a topic elsewhere about how Valve is so unoriginal and copying Discord in every possible way. So I will just go ahead and paste what I answered down below. As for me, I'm with Hydro on this one. I too didn't like Discord, I didn't want to go there at all because that's one more application running in the background, forcing me to switch between applications here and there when someone message me.

Especially since I no longer have dual monitors, I have to use the overlay feature like so many other people here and Discord is certainly not helping with its lack of text overlay when someone is typing something in a server. Text-to-speech is a thing, that's all good and all but that's distracting and pretty darn annoying over time, especially when a conversation doesn't concern me. Originally posted by Queen Hyokkuda: I'm sorry but I don't see how Steam is 'the bad' guy here. Steam doesn't look anywhere close to Discord in terms of appearance.

Steam has a group chat feature for years now, way before Discord existed. If you're talking about the channels in Discord servers, they existed in Twitch for instance. That's way before Discord was a thing and I believe in TeamSpeak as well, but I'm not entirely sure. But they sure existed in Xfire as well, and now that's what I call old as hell! So I guess that makes Steam, Twitch, Discord and TeamSpeak the unoriginal ones here because voice chat, text chat, broadcast feature, in-game features and server feature was all some actual existing features back when Xfire was still alive. I don't think you actually read my post, you just saw the title and copy/pasted what you said in another thread.

You are free to dislike Discord, it doesn't matter to me. I'm saying that I don't want every website to clone Discord to a point where I need to open each different application and website just to get what I currently get from Discord. As I've already mentioned, I don't see a problem in Steam's chat being similar to Discord, it's the implications that are created as a result. Originally posted by:discord copied teamspeak, teamspeak copied IRC irc copied pigeon mailquit acting like this is a discord clone because of group chats and image embedding which has existed long before discordOnce again, as above, you clearly didn't read my post and just came to ♥♥♥♥ on Discord instead.

I never suggested that group chats or image embedding are the reason that this is shaping up to be a Discord clone, nor that it is even a bad thing. I'm not saying that Steam are bad for copying Discord, I'm saying that it creates annoying circumstances as other companies are doing this too.

I did read it all and your suggestion here doesn't make any sense. Read my copy/pasted quote again. Steam had all the features that Discord offers from the very beginning. I'd say you're a liar if Discord was your first platform before Steam. You left Steam for Discord for trival reasons. The only thing that Steam chat and group chat didn't have back then was an extended chat history, channels inside its group chats, share images and small files, auto-login to group and text-to-speech and now it does -except for the text-to-speech.You don't want every websites to clone Discord (including Steam apparently since you commented about it), but what does it matter when you're still forced to tab out of your game to reply to your friends on Discord instead of Steam?

Or when some of your friends message you on Steam instead? You can't help it but play ping-pong from one application to another anyway. How is that every websites? How did its difference in UI change your way of using them the same way as you are now? All Steam did was change its UI and improve the chat and group chat a bit, the rest is pretty much the same.

So I think you just wanted to scream about how Steam is trying to do like Discord despite the fact that Steam holds almost all of Discord's features from the very beginning and even more.I was sort of forced to move to Discord simply because a big portion of my friends who are in my group liked the fact that they're logged to servers automatically as soon as they boot-up their computer unlike Steam group chats were you had to constantly open a group chat manually or create a batch file. They liked the chat history and the ability to have their own emotes to a server and upload files.

That's about it. So now that group chat on Steam keep history for 2 weeks or something, why should I keep Discord running in the background and force myself to tab out when everything is now in one place right here on Steam? And why should you?

You just answered your own complaint without realizing it. You don't want everyone to do like Discord because you want to keep everything in one place, well there you go! Steam has everything in one place now, so why staying on Discord? Is it because your friends can't leave it and you're forced to move between them and now you're suggesting that Steam should somehow support Discord and open the Discord servers or chat from its own client or something? Because to me, that's exactly what it sounds like.

Most of them were seen in Slack and there is a reason for that; they are features that just make sense for a chat platform to have.I would pick Valve over Discord any day. Discord can not pay upkeep for its services without gathering and processing user data. Eventually, they will sell out and move on. Valve is much more reliable and less dependant on user data - hence chat logs are only kept for 2 weeks. I never 'left Steam for Discord'.

Steam's chat feature was underdeveloped from the beginning, before Discord I used Skype to communicate with my friends to play games or voice call. Once I found Discord it took Skype's place, not Steam's.My problem with sites cloning Discord is not about the effect it has on Steam but on the fact that I'd need to check many different sites just to get what I currently get from Discord - all my servers in one place.Yes, Steam just changed their UI. I'm not suggesting that this is a bad thing nor that it's a new thing. I'm simply saying that the direction that they're taking with their new chat is very similar to some things other companies are doing to fill the space Discord is currently filling. To reiterate, since you're not getting this: I have no problem with Steam's current features nor whether or not it's cloning Discord or not.

That's not the inherent problem. My problem is that I don't want to have to juggle each app just to do what I do with Discord currently. You were not forced to use Discord. Nobody tells you to use Discord. If you don't like using it, don't. Discord very clearly has a lot more features that make group chats with it more enjoyable than with Steam, but if you don't want to use Discord I doubt anybody will fault you for DMing them with Steam.

I started the post by saying that I'm glad that the chat is being updated. This isn't about choosing sides. It's that companies are trying to fill the space Discord is currently filling and I'm personally saying that I'd rather use Discord because it is central. I don't want to have to check Reddit, Discord and Steam just to get what I currently get with Discord.Yes, Discord cannot pay to keep itself open, which is why this is my proposal. Mutually beneficial - Steam get Discord's userbase & features, while Discord get money to monetise their product. They're currently figuring out how to monetize Discord because, yes, Nitro isn't enough. And I never suggested it's anything to do with Valve, I'm simply stating that my idea is mutually beneficial for both Valve and Discord.

I'm not suggesting that this is even likely to happen - I don't think either company plan to have anything to do with each other. It's but an idea. I see where you're going with that now.

I know that despite Valve large amount of money, they can't seems to mainain a stable connection with the voice chat and text chat. But knowing Steam, they will never team-up with Discord. I don't think they ever teamed up with anyone. That's pretty much a dead suggestion already.Well, everyone started leaving the group chat on Steam or they were completely ignoring what was going on in the group chat so I figured I had no other choices. It was multiple votes against mine for specific features Steam didn't have, including some lovely bugs where group chats are ghosted.

And again the lovely connection. Originally posted by:Once again, you're making very absent minded assumptions. I never 'left Steam for Discord'. Stop assuming that I hate Steam or some ♥♥♥♥, because I haven't said that. The point of my post is that I don't want other companies to have their own version of Discord within their application, and as a result I suggest that Discord and Valve should work together. I never said that I don't like the Steam chat.

Your discord server probably sucks. This is a decent set of rules but i feel that you should condense this to make it more easier to read instead of just listing a bunch of bullets.

No offensive messages or nicknames - Anything that a reasonable person might find offensive. I found this on a Reddit post that maybe you should use instead. Huh, people are commenting on this? Lets clear some shit up.1: This is a fork2: I did this for my use as it has some things I might forget.3: I did forget about this anyway.

I can make my own rules, I don't need this list.4: This isn't a public gist by choice. I think it was made public because of the fork, but in any case I don't see an option to hide it now.How did you guys even find this?

I treat gist as a little notebook of gists I find here.TL;DR, Go bug the original owner. This is a fork and doesn't represent my views.

It's just a list I decided to save for a few ideas. The list overall is way to much.I'll give this a day and save the list elsewhere before deleting it here. Don't know why people are showing up here and even staring this crap. How did you guys even find this? I treat gist as a little notebook of gists I find here.most people do not notice that this is a fork, and your fork is very popular on Google when searching for Discord Rules (this shows up instead of the original one) so this is why everyone comments on this.TL;DR, Go bug the original owner. Metagenomics methods and protocols pdf software. The list overall is way to much.Don't take the comments personally, they are not directed at you but at the author of the rules. It's just a list I decided to save for a few ideas. It is way easier to star it and click on Starred gists to find it than forking it and risking what already happened (people finding it).It would be nice if you could find time and improve somewhat these rules, but I understand you are probably busy and don't have time to deal with this as well. Just saying in case you find some time and want to do it 😄.
