Create Sims 4 Custom Content

The clothing, hair and makeup mimic what is popular in the real world today. In this article, I will explain how to get custom content for Sims 4. I have a MacBook, but the steps are pretty much the same for PC users!Step One: Make sure you have the resource file you need to process the mods.On your computer go to Finder → Documents → Electronic Arts→ The Sims 4→Mods. There should be a file already in there named, “Resource.cfg” If this file isn’t in that folder it should be easy to find online!Step Two: Find some custom content you want to download. The most popular website to find custom content for Sims games is. You can find custom content on other sites like Tumblr by searching “sims 4 cc.' On The Sims Resource, you can find custom content for all of the Sims games!

Once on the website, you’ll go to Downloads→ The Sims 4→ Show All (or whatever content you’re looking for). You can always filter the search for specific items, but you won’t be able to search for items without creating an account. Using The Sims Resource is free, but using the site is easier if you pay the $3.99 a month.

When downloading content from this website, you can only download one thing at a time and you have to wait ten seconds before it will load onto your computer. With a paid account you can add everything you want to download to a cart and download everything all at once which makes the process a lot easier.Step Three: Download the contentOnce you found what you’re looking for, click the item. Make sure you read the description. Sometimes items for download don’t include the mesh.

The mesh is the base item it needs to make the item you’re looking at. Most things for download have the mesh included, and if it doesn’t the link to download the mesh should be provided. For an example, I’m going to download some hair.In the description, you can see that the creator of the content suggests how to have the content show up the best. In this example, the content creator says to play the game with the sims details on very high, have your game updated, and turn laptop mode off. Of course, these are all suggestions, but suggestions that could help with gameplay. All of these suggestions can be managed in Game Options once playing Sims 4.After reading the description, it’s time to download! Like I said before, without a paid account you have to wait at least 10 seconds before the download will take place.Step Four: Moving the custom content into the Mods folder.Once the ten seconds is up, the content should be moved into your “downloads” folder on your computer. Make sure the file ends in, “.package”. If it doesn’t, you might have to open a zip file.

The software on my Mac automatically unzips files that are zipped, but on PCs you might have to download or purchase a separate program, like winrar, to unzip files like that. Most custom content you’ll find won’t be zipped, but just make sure before you download if you don’t have the right programs to unzip them! From here you’ll drag the file into the Mods folder in the Electronic Arts file.

I like to keep my custom content separated just in case it doesn’t work so I know where to find it to delete it. Here, I’ve moved my new hair into my hair file.Step Five: Make sure the custom content works in your game. For this step, you need to open your game and make sure your custom content is turned on. When you enter the game this screen should pop up with the new custom content you’ve downloaded:This means that your content was downloaded successfully and will work in your game. The next step is to make sure that your custom content is turned on. Go to the three dots at the top right of the screen→Game Options→Other, and then you should see this:Make sure that both of these are checked.

This is some of the custom hair I’ve downloaded:Step Six: Enjoy the custom content!Playing with custom content is so much better than playing with the items the game comes with. Here’s a comparison of a sim with custom content (hair, clothes, shoes, makeup, accessories, and skins) and a sim with just the items from the game.Remember custom content is not all safe, so watch out for sketchy sites! The Sims Resource is a well known, trusted site that a lot of simmers use to enhance thgameplayplay, but not all sites are the same! Be safe and enjoy!

We all know and love the mods that the community comes up with. Have you ever wanted to make one of your own?Once you know the ropes, it really isn’t that hard to do. All you need to do is read up on the right guides and learn the basics before trying to skip ahead to the good stuff.Note – This Aging Mod is compatible for the patch today (June 23rd). However, I will be releasing a tutorial in the next few days on how to check if your mods need updated.

That way you will know how to check yourself for next time.Create A Mod (Beginner) – Let’s Make a Mod is the second part of my Create A Mod series of tutorials. Before you begin this tutorial, please make sure that you’ve done everything in. Let’s Make a ModToday I’m going to show you how to make your very own Aging Mod so that you can set your sims age spans to your very own desired lengths. I’ll be showing you many different things that you can do later in the series. For now, I just want you to get your toes wet a little before we dive completely in. There’s a few things we need to do first before we make our Aging Mod, so let’s get started!Setting the Folders UpNote – Although you don’t have to name the folders the way I have them below, I suggest that you do so that you know which folders I’m referring to. They’ll be used in later tutorials as well.

Right-click on your Desktop and select New Folder and name it Mod Creating. Open your new Mod Creating folder and create a folder inside named Sims 4 Studio:The Sims 4 Studio folder looks lonely now, but we’ll be adding more folders here in later tutorials.3. Open the Sims 4 Studio folder and create two new folders inside it, name them: 616 and Modded XMLs. So it looks like this:Note – The 616 folder is the date of the most recent patch (June 16th) at the time this was written. If the most recent patch for you now is a later date, then go ahead and name this folder to that date instead. For example, you’re following this tutorial in late July and the last patch for you was on July 7th then you’d name the folder 77 instead of 616.ExtractingNow we need to use Sims 4 Studio to extract the XML resources from the game. These extracted resources are what we will be using to create mods.Note – Always make sure that you have the latest version of before extracting.

Sometimes you’ll have to wait for an update to the program after a patch or pack release. Thank you to simjennkim for the reminder 🙂. Open Sims 4 Studio.

In the upper-left click on ToolsExtract Tuning3. When the Extract Tuning window pops up, tick the Use Subfolders and Extract All boxes as shown below, then click Export:4. A window will pop up telling you to Browse for Folder. Navigate to and select your 616 folder (Mod CreatingSims 4 Studio616), then click OK:5. It will take several minutes, just let it go. Once it’s done, your 616 folder will pop up and the extracting will be complete.Note – Each time there’s a new patch, you’ll have to extract. Before you do, make a new folder as you did in Step 3 of the Setting the Folders Up section above.

Name the folder so that it corresponds with the date of the new patch. For example, if the next patch is on June 23rd this month, you’ll name your new folder 623. Do not delete your old patch folders until you have checked to see if your mods need updated. I will show you how to do that in the next tutorial.Creating the ModNow for the fun part (finally, right?).

Let’s get started on making our Aging mod. Open your 616 folder (inside Mod CreatingSims 4 Studio). In the search box where it says Search 616, let’s go ahead and type in aging. Several resources will pop up, we want the one that’s named sims.aging.agingtuning.Tuning.xml, as shown below:.

Double-click to open it.Note – If it doesn’t automatically open with Notepad , right-click on the XML and select Properties. Where it says Opens with, click on the Change button, navigate to and select your notepad.exe and click open, then click Apply. Close the window and redo Step 4. Now that you have your XML open in Notepad, it’s time to do some editing.

Scroll down until you find ADULT. A little down from there you will see 20 which is the age span in days for an adult sim:.

Double-click on the number 20 and it will automatically highlight in green. Now just enter your desired age length for adult. Don’t delete or move anything else, just change the number.Note – The words in green are called comments. Reading these will usually help you recognize what it’s for and what it means.

I will go into more detail on reading these and other elements in XMLs later in this series.6. Let’s scroll down and change the lengths for BABY, CHILD, ELDER, TEEN, AND YOUNG ADULT. Change them to your desired length or leave them at their defaults:8. When you’re done, go to FileSave As (.Do NOT click FileSave). Then Save it in your Modded XMLs folder (Mod CreatingSims 4 Studio). Do NOT rename it, otherwise it will not load when you import it into Sims 4 Studio for packaging next. Note – You don’t want to click FileSave because that will overwrite the original which you will need later when checking your Mods for needed updates after a patch.Packaging the Mod.

Open Sims 4 Studio. Go to ToolsCreate Empty Package, it will then ask you to save your package. Put AgingMod in the File name box and click Save (have it save to your Desktop so you can easily find it):3. Now that your empty package is loaded into Sims 4 Studio, click on the Batch Importbutton at the bottom:4.

Navigate to your Modded XMLs folder (inside Mod CreatingSims 4 Studio). Select your edited XML and click Open:5. Our resource will now be in our AgingMod package.6. Click on the Tuning file in the left box and the XML will show in the right.

Just go through and double-check your changes. You can edit your XML right there in the box if you need to.7. If everything is as you want them, then go ahead and click Save.Note – You could do all of your edits right in Sims 4 Studio like this, however doing it the way we did is better because Notepad will warn you with a pop-up if you delete anything that you’re not supposed to. Congratulations, you just finished your mod!! Now move it from your Desktop to your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 4Mods folder so you can test it!Testing the ModNow it’s time to test your mod.

You will ALWAYS want to test your mod. Even if you’re absolutely sure you did everything perfectly, test just to be on the safe side. There’s different ways to test different mods to ensure they’re working as you intended. For this one, the best way to test is to do the following:. Create a new “Test” save.

Create a family with a sim for each of the age groups that you changed, they don’t have to be perfect just randomize everything they’re only to test. Move them into a lot.

Press Y to open up Simology, then hover over the age bar.Note – There’s currently a game bug where the number of remaining days won’t show unless you hover over the green area of the bar. If you experience this, then you’ll have to fast forward until you see some green that you can hover over. If the days until age up is the same as you set them to, then your mod is working correctly!Note – The days will be less than the number you set if you have to fast forward through more than a day in order to hover over green. If it’s not working properly, try going through the tutorial one more time. If you continue having problems then feel free to contact me and I’ll take a look at your mod and do what I can to help.Source.
